Letter from a Christian
You are using assumptions on the basis that the earth and solar systems are
billions of years old.  Did I say the earth was fixed?  The meteor craters
on the moon and earth do not show a great age.  What happened to all the
dust that was suppose to be on the moon when we landed there some time ago?
It was calculated to be several feet thick and NASA was worried that the men
and the spacecraft would sink?  

The creation account states that God made light before He made the sun,
moon, or stars. The rest of creation was mature, so starlight was probably
mature at creation as well. I would ask the question, How old was Adam when
God made him? Obviously he was zero years old. But how old did he look? He
was a full-grown man. The trees were full-grown with fruit on them the first
day they were made. The creation had to be that way, it would not work
otherwise. Star's and their light were made at the same time. The God that I
worship is not limited by anything involving time, space or matter.

Finally, I would also like to point out that the evolutionists have no
answer to the basic questions like; Where did the original matter space and
energy come from for the stars? I suspect God built the universe so we would
say "Wow!" When we see the stars we should be reminded of the glory of God
not evolution. See Psalms 8.

Some questions:
1. Where did the space for the universe come from? 

2. Where did matter come from? 

3. Where did the laws of the universe come from (gravity, inertia, etc.)?

4. How did matter get so perfectly organized? 

5. Where did the energy come from to do all the organizing? 

6. When, where, why, and how did life come from dead matter? 

7. When, where, why, and how did life learn to reproduce itself? 

8. With what did the first cell capable of sexual reproduction reproduce? 

9. Why would any plant or animal want to reproduce more of its kind since
this would only make more mouths to feed and decrease the chances of
survival? (Does the individual have a drive to survive, or the species? How
do you explain this?) 

10. How can mutations (recombining of the genetic code) create any new,
improved varieties? (Recombining English letters will never produce Chinese
books.) 

11. Is it possible that similarities in design between different animals
prove a common Creator instead of a common ancestor? 

12. Natural selection only works with the genetic information available and
tends only to keep a species stable. How would you explain the increasing
complexity in the genetic code that must have occurred if evolution were
true? 

13. When, where, why, and how did 

a.   Single-celled plants become multi-celled? (Where are the two and
three-celled intermediates?) 
b.   Single-celled animals evolve? 
c.   Fish change to amphibians? 
d.   Amphibians change to reptiles? 
e.   Reptiles change to birds? (The lungs, bones, eyes, reproductive organs,
heart, method of locomotion, body covering, etc., are all very different!) 
  
How did the intermediate forms live? 
14. When, where, why, how, and from what did:

a.   Whales evolve? 
b.   Sea horses evolve? 
c.   Bats evolve? 
d.   Eyes evolve?
e.   Ears evolve?
f.    Hair, skin, feathers, scales, nails, claws, etc., evolve? 
15. Which evolved first (how, and how long, did it work without the others)?


a. The digestive system, the food to be digested, the appetite, the ability
to find and eat the food, the digestive juices, or the body's resistance to
its own digestive juice (stomach, intestines, etc.)? 
b. The drive to reproduce or the ability to reproduce? 
c. The lungs, the mucus lining to protect them, the throat, or the perfect
mixture of gases to be breathed into the lungs? 
d. DNA or RNA to carry the DNA message to cell parts? 
e. The termite or the flagella in its intestines that actually digest the
cellulose? 
f. The plants or the insects that live on and pollinate the plants? 
g. The bones, ligaments, tendons, blood supply, or muscles to move the
bones? 
h. The nervous system, repair system, or hormone system? 
i. The immune system or the need for it? 
16. There are many thousands of examples of symbiosis that defy an
evolutionary explanation. Why must we teach students that evolution is the
only explanation for these relationships? 

17. How would evolution explain mimicry? Did the plants and animals develop
mimicry by chance, by their intelligent choice, or by design? 

18. When, where, why, and how did man evolve feelings? Love, mercy, guilt,
etc. would never evolve in the theory of evolution. 

19. *How did photosynthesis evolve? 

20. * How did thought evolve? 

21. *How did flowering plants evolve, and from what? 

22. *What kind of evolutionist are you? Why are you not one of the other
eight or ten kinds? 

23. What would you have said fifty years ago if I told you I had a living
coelacanth in my aquarium? 

24. *Is there one clear prediction of macroevolution that has proved true? 

25. *What is so scientific about the idea of hydrogen gas becoming human?

26. *Do you honestly believe that everything came from nothing?

After you have answered the preceding questions, please look carefully at
your answers and thoughtfully consider the following questions.

1. Are you sure your answers are reasonable, right, and scientifically
provable, or do you just believe that it may have happened the way you have
answered? (Do these answers reflect your religion or your science?) 

2. Do your answers show more or less faith than the person who says, "God
must have designed it"? 

3. Is it possible that an unseen Creator designed this universe? If God is
excluded at the beginning of the discussion by your definition of science,
how could it be shown that He did create the universe if He did? 

4. Is it wise and fair to present the theory of evolution to students as
fact?

5. What is the end result of a belief in evolution (lifestyle, society,
attitude about others, eternal destiny, etc.)? 

6. Do people accept evolution because of the following factors? 

a.   It is all they have been taught. 
b.   They like the freedom from God (no moral absolutes, etc.). 
c.   They are bound to support the theory for fear of losing their job or
status or grade point average. 
d.   They are too proud to admit they are wrong. 
e.   Evolution is the only philosophy that can be used to justify their
political agenda. 
7. Should we continue to use outdated, disproved, questionable, or
inconclusive evidences to support the theory of evolution because we don't
have a suitable substitute (Piltdown man, recapitulation, archaeopteryx,
Lucy, Java man, Neanderthal man, horse evolution, vestigial organs, etc.)? 

8. Should parents be allowed to require that evolution not be taught as fact
in their school system unless equal time is given to other theories of
origins (like divine creation)? 

9. What are you risking if you are wrong? As one of my debate opponents
said, "Either there is a God or there is not.  Both possibilities are
frightening." 

10. Why are many evolutionists afraid of the idea of creationism being
presented in public schools?  If we are not supposed to teach religion in
schools, then why not get evolution out of the textbooks?  It is just a
religious worldview. 

11. Aren't you tired of faith in a system that cannot be true?   Wouldn't it
be great to know the God who made you, and to accept His love and
forgiveness? 

12. Would you be interested, if I showed you from the Bible, how to have
your sins forgiven and how to know for sure that you are going to Heaven?

My reply
All moon rocks date to over 2 billion years old. The cratering on the moon
dates to a time in the early solar system when meteors were falling at a great
rate. The earth was similarly cratered in its early times, but these early
craters were eroded away. How would the huge earth craters form without great
changes on earth, due to the vast dust clouds produced? 
Why do you say the craters are not old? All the evidence shows great age. The
material of the earth was produced in earlier stars, which form these heavier
atoms out of hydrogen and helium.

The story of great layers of dust was based on early, pre-satellite
measurements of dust rate fall. More accurate direct measurements
show a much smaller rate of dust inflow. The upper 50 feet of the moon is
composed of regolith, broken rock from the cratering time, mixed with 4.55
billion years of space dust, directly observed by astronauts.
The trickster God you propose made the whole universe to appear old.
That would result in much confusion. Why would a trickster God try to
mislead the whole population of the world?
Every piece of physical evidence shows an old earth and older universe. Modern
humans lived on earth over 120,000 years and older species of humans lived
earlier. Read the Jan. 2000 issue of Scientific American magazine for details.
The ice age deposits show humans lived then, over 12,000 years ago.

The big bang is the origin of space, time, matter and energy.
The laws of the universe also came from the big bang.
What is the basis for the claim that matter is perfectly organized?
What would imperfect matter look like?
The early earth had no life, as it was molten. In less than a billion years,
there was bacteria, found in the formations of that time.
Nothing more complex than bacteria was found for about 3 billion years. Life,
by definition, is a chemically reproducing genetic system.
Sexual reproduction developed after the nucleated eukaryoted evolved about
one billion years ago.
Mutation make new instructions for the organism. Those producing problems die
out
and those producing a superior animal or plant tend to spread to following
generations. As mutations and gene duplication occurred, new development
characteristics appear, adding to the complexity of
the genome and the organism involved, over billions of years.
Since these organisms naturally evolved over millions of years, no Creator is
needed.
For example, gravity perfectly accounts for observed planetary motion,
so no Creator is needed to form or guide the planets.
Multicell life is observed in the Ediacara ocean fossils life forms in
Australia.
There are two cell life forms known. There is no reason why there must be
steps of 2,3,4..many cell life.
Early birds, like Archeopteryx, had a body structure almost identical to
reptiles of that time. My files discuss this fossil in detail.
Intermediates are just about as viable as the earlier or later stages of
evolution.
My EVOLUTION files give the details of the evolution of whales, humans and and
horses. Less is known about the ancestry of bats, very ancient bats are similar
to, but not identical to modern bats.
The steps leading to eyes is also described in my files, in the works of Darwin
and in the book CLIMBING MOUNT IMPROBABLE by Dawkins.
The details of these other questions are answered in my files or in the science
literature. It is obvious that you have never read any of this material.
Symbiosis occurs when independently living systems develop an association,
useful to both organisms. Eukaryote cells are found to be a symbiotic system
of earlier, simpler bacteria.
Flowering plants evolved in the Cretaceous Period, and they have found very
early fossil stages of flower evolution, in Australia.
Every observation in nature fits macroevolution, as each geological period has
a unique set of species, derived from ancestors living in earlier geological
periods.
Stars cooked up heavier atoms, which were sent back to space, as the star aged
or exploded. Once the solar system formed, life evolved eventually to humans,
by natural processes.
The origin of the big bang is a mystery, but the subject is too complex for
uneducated people to try to judge. The results of the big bang, the 2.7 degree
microwave radiation, the expanding universe and the ratio of light isotopes
validate the big bang model.
You are good at asking questions. Now go look for the answers science has
discovered, in vast quantities.

Which is more likely, you are right and the whole science community is wrong,
or you have been misinformed?
Is everybody stupid but you?
These answers science has discovered over the centuries have been tested over
and over by checking evidence and making predictions.
That validates it. Science is not a religion as religion starts with final
answers, to be believed by faith. 

"God did it" makes no testable prediction allowing it to be validated or
refuted. That is why science ignores all stories about deities.
If you propose a Creator, what is the external evidence for such an individual?
Evolution is observed in nature the whole world over, so that makes it a
science fact. Many of the mechanisms of evolution are known, and tested in the
laboratory No observation anywhere has refuted evolution yet.
The results of belief in evolution is the modern scientific society.
How many oil fields have the preachers found using Creation? 
Where are all the creationist geology maps or creationist biology science
journals?
Early scientists accepted the Bible stories, as it developed in Christian
Europe.
Honest scientists, many of them ministers, studied the physical evidence in the
1700s to 1900s and found the bible stories did NOT fit what they observed in
the earth. The young earth was found to not fit the complex formations and
fossil layers observed over the whole world.
Science discoveries are totally independent of God stories, allowing it freedom
to make theories without magical influence or priestly interference.
The fossils  showed an evolutionary sequence, not sudden appearance in
4004 B.C. in Eden.
Science is always willing to admit that former models were mistaken, as they
were replaced by better models based on better data.
People get Nobel prizes for making major changes to the existing science
models.
There is no Pope or Inquisition to burn and imprison scientists who make
radical new claims. If they new model passes proper tests, they are praised.
If it turns out they are in error, everybody learns a lesson.
Evolution is a science model, not a philosophy.
Piltdown man was a fraud, exposed by scientists, once adequate testing methods
developed. 
Horse evolution is not the simple straight line sequence shown in basic books,
but is a complex bush of species. There is great evidence modern horses evolved
from small ancestors having multiple toes.
Archeopteryx is a fully accepted intermediate between reptiles and birds. It is
not the ancestor of modern birds, but a side line which became extinct.
Java and Neanderthal man were valid early stages of humans. Neanderthals are not
our ancestors, as shown by comparison of the DNA of modern humans and a fossil
Neanderthal man.  They are still defined as a variety of Homo sapiens.
There are cases where structures from the ancestral stage are expressed. Some
horses grow side toes, some whales have small external legs, and the whalebone
whale fetus develops teeth, which dissolve before birth.Explain that without
evolution.
Modern birds carry genes for growing reptile teeth, which can be made to
express themselves in laboratory conditions, growing reptile type teeth.
Explain that without evolution.
People who are not scientifically trained should not have the power to alter
or remove science in the public schools. 
Should parents who believe in the geocentric universe make the schools teach
their system and not present the heliocentric model? 
The Consitution and Federal Courts have decided in many cases that religious
ideas have no place in determining how science should be taught. My CREATION
files list the court cases generated by Christians trying to control science in
the schools.
Mistaken science can show its errors by resulting in false predictions.
Religion has no self correcting process as it is all based on faith. All sorts
of gods and godesses are proposed in human history. All are potentially real.
How does one test to see if any of them are real? 
Creation has no history of ever producing any physical evidence to support it
and has never produced any validated predictions. It totally rests on religious
faith, and magical actions of a deity, untestable and unreproducible.
Faith and magic are not part of the system we call science.
Introduction of such a system opens up all similar religious sytems of other
cultures as equally promoted in the science classes, leaving real science a
minor part of the science education process. Students will get an excellent
lesson in cultural diversity and mythology, but sadly lacking in any real
science education.
Evolution has passed every test for science validity so far. That means it
belongs in textbooks, along with gravity, germs, relativity, atoms and other
validated science models.
Science does not offer TRUTH, but instead produces models of varying degrees of
probability. All science models are tentative and approximate, allowing
correction and modification, as needed by future discoveries. 
The idea of sin, salvation, heaven, hell and deities are part of an ancient
cultural system, derived from Hebrew tribal tales.
It is totally a matter of faith. 
I do not see it has any validity in describing the world we live in, only the
world of imagination, myth and faith.

I see you spent much time in copying down material from creationist literature.
I see also you have spent no time in checking it for validity.
I suggest you spend adequate time studying what the scientists have found, thus
answering many of your questions.
My files list many of these matters in detail. Much more is available in readily
available science literature of all levels of complexity.

Another letter to a Christian

 The faith of science is simple and the minimum
necessary to allow nature to be investigated.
The universe and observer are assumed to exist.
The laws of the universe are assumed to be constant
since shortly after the big bang.
We assume they will continue to operate in the
future as in the past.

Religion has a vastly larger set of assumptions, all the
creeds, dogmas, claims of the church autorities and the
entire text of the Bible chosen as valid.
They seem to be accidents of history and personal preferences
of the founders of the faith involved. 
It matters to me what the origin of humans are. It is my
curious nature.
Knowledge of this matter also applies to living things in
general.

The Christian religion has a universe which operates
by the whim of God.
One day, the sun and moon stood still for about a
day, for Joshua. Most of the time they cross the sky normally.
Another day, the sun backs up for Isaiah. Iron axe
heads usually sink but sometimes float. Disease
is caused by God punishing somebody for sin or is
the act of demons. It has the sun going around the
fixed earth.
Water usually stays water but sometimes turns to wine
to liven up a party.
Dead people usually stay dead but sometimes they wake
up and walk around. 
It has Hebrews invading a land and killing or enslaving
the people there, with God commanding even slaughter of
little babies.
I Sam 15, Num 31 and Joshua.
People who can accept such things as logical and moral
will have a strict approach to running their society.
I have a picture of Christian torture instruments. 
I was impressed by the breast rippers and rectum ruiners.
They finally stopped these habits only when they suffered
a loss of political power. Maybe it will start again
if the power once more flows back to its former level.
Luther hated Jews. He founded the Protestant religion.
That explains much that I observe in his followers.

These reasons are why I prefer following the findings of
science rather than the traditions of religious groups,
ranging from the crazy cultists to the most sane educated
church official. Each of these has a foundation totally
based on faith, not testable by any experiment or observation.
When I trace the origin back as far as possible, the 
foundation disappears into the arbitrary claims of some
person or group.

In science, false assumptions eventually produce some
difference between prediction and observation.
In religion, false assumptions are not tested, as
they are the foundation of the whole system. Deviations
from predicted outcomes are explained away as a mystery
of God, possibly testing our faith, or Satan trying to
lead people away from the TRUTH.
The repeated failure of religion in accurately describing
the physical world compares unfavorably with the continued
success of science in describing the physical world.
