The example in the short manual for example: f(x)=5*x^2-6/x I started the function differentiate, entered the term 5*x^2-6/x in the field EXPR:, choose X in the field VAR and selected Symbolic in the field RESULT. After hitting OK I got an numeric value on the stack: 65.1420118343. This happens with every function I try to differentiate. Only the number afterward on the stack changed. I never got the symbolic solution. Anyone an idea, what I did wrong or why the 48g behaves this way? Danny === Subject: Re: Symbolic Differentiation with 48g I am really confused. I never got the symbolic solution. Anyone an idea, what I did wrong or why the 48g behaves this way? Does the variable x have a value? If so the calculator may be using that rather then the symbol 'x'. Tom Lake === Subject: Re: Symbolic Differentiation with 48g > Does the variable x have a value? If so the calculator may be using > that rather > then the symbol 'x'. Hi Tom, there was a var x in the memory/directory with a numeric value. I did not assumed that the calculator take this in account, when using a funtion like the differentiation. Does it mean, that an expression on the stack is automatically evaluate with a matching variable in the current dir? Danny === Subject: Re: Symbolic Differentiation with 48g > Does it mean, that an expression on the stack is automatically evaluated > with a matching variable in the current [or higher] dir? That's what the HP49/50 series does, but if you clear flag -3, the HP48 will normally ignore things stored in variables, unless you explicitly EVAL an expression; just repeat your experiment with that flag cleared for better results. === Subject: Re: Symbolic Differentiation with 48g Does the variable x have a value? When results not what you expect, it is always a good idea to check for variables being in use in conflicting ways. Note that the same kind of thing can occur when any variable in your current program or algebraic is in use as a name in a higher directory. I.e., if you have a value saved as 'X' in the HOME directory then every use of X in a subdirectory will is liable to take the saved value from the HOME directory. === Subject: Re: HP's award Winning Support Team Explains the ONe Year Warranty >> The one year starts when the ORIGINAL purchaser buys it. >> That includes resellers like Calculators.com, Office Max and Staples. >> If you buy a new, sealed calculator off the shelf and it's been >> on the shelf for three months, you'd get a 9-month warranty. It comes with both HP48 and HP49/50 version libraries, though, FWIW, and claims to match the results of Xtide. Did you try it? This can be done either in the 50 or on a PC, but i recommend doing it on a PC. Just make sure you specify FAT16 format. You can use anything up to 2 gb. I use 2gb Kensington MicroSD cards in an SD adapter in my 50 and they work fine! I haven't tried it, but i think the same holds true for MiniSD cards in an adapter. === Subject: Re: Questions about SD cards for 50G posting-account=2G4L-woAAABoWmw_YYmxjw-bOIfoIAqk MathPlayer 2.10b; .NET CLR 1.1.4322),gzip(gfe),gzip(gfe) > What SD cards (brands and max capacity) work with the 50G? > I tried to use the one that came with my camera but it doesn't work, Does the camera card type say SD exactly, > or is there any slight difference? I just bought a 2 GB patriot brand, it seems to work. Does the library supposed show :3 when the SD card is inserted? It's shown on the filer as SD and it says 916832KB (2GB?) . I haven't formatted it, but when I tried to run the format command on the 50G, it says error. === Subject: Re: Questions about SD cards for 50G > I just bought a 2 GB patriot brand, it seems to work. > Is the library supposed show :3: when the SD card is inserted? No, the card is an external device, potentially containing objects entirely foreign to the calculator, whereas only calculator-specific objects can exist inside the remaining environment. Calculator libraries can not be executed from SD card (must be moved to a lower port, e.g. 2, 1, or 0) However, :3:name is valid for RCL, STO, EVAL > It's shown on the filer as SD and it says 916832KB (2GB?) Yes, that's 2GB, with the initial digit truncated, due to a display column too narrow for all the digits :) > I haven't formatted it, > but when I tried to run the format command on the 50G, it says error. It's pretty certain to be already formatted, or you can re-format (with greater control) on a computer. Is it write-protected? (slider on side) Try copying variables to it, or make your first instant backup via :3:BK001 ARCHIVE (and copy libraries using the Filer) === Subject: Re: How to install a library frim SD card > Ok but it is just the copy of the program from port 1 that > it is at the same speed.
