DerekJust heard this morning on CNBC, and confirmed at HP's web site, that HPis planning to split up into two companies: one devoted toPC/Printing/Imaging, and the other to legacy business such as testequipment/medical equipment/etc. No mention of the calculator divisionwas made, but since this was indeed a legacy product line, my guess isthat calculators will be folded into the new measurement company. (RPLref.lib) and you will soonfind this on the hpcalc.org site. In the meantime, I have placed it on my Homepage (http://www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/9160/)Robert H. Parry.I downloaded and installed it, but it finds neither ted nor vv, althoughboth of them are installed in port 3. RPLref.lib ist stored in port 2.What's wrong?CUStefanI can't get my HP48GX to communicate with Hyperterminal. I have even triedusing the Private Edition. What I really want is a rom dump, but I can't get Hyperterminal tocommunicate with the HP using XModem. It just keeps retrying to send thefirst packet.I know things are working from the PC to the HP because HP Explorer isworking.Does anyone have any ideas? I am running version R rom. and my portsettings are 8-N-1-9600. ==screen (you may have seen a few postings to that effect if you've been onhere for a while). The plastic would remain scratch-free indefinitely if treated with care, butsome people (and this is not intended as a criticism) aren't as tuned in tothe need not to let anything touch the screen. Actually, given the level ofcomplaints, HP should probably consider a little more hardening.I couldn't help noticing, when I showed my '49 to one of the bettermechanical engineers where I work, one of the first things he did was put abig fingerprint in the middle of the screen.I've got a working cable and a recently upgraded PC running Windows 98with an open serial port on COM 2.I know the cable works, because I previously (only once or twice, longago) downloaded some programs to my HP 48. But for the life of me, Ican't repeat the act! It was long enough ago that I don't remember whatsoftware I used to get Kermit on the PC (or was it XModem?) in Windows3.11. Since there was a time, before the upgrade, that I cleaned lotsof software off my over-full hard drive, whatever I used may be gone.Does Windows 98 have Kermit or XModem built in somewhere? Are therethorough step-by-step instructions available - more detailed than what'sin the User's Manual? Help, please!I just did this last week - used the Kermit off of hpcalc.orgit's DOS, it's simple - just make sure you verify all the settings. I hadthe checksum set to 1 in my hp48 (instead of 3), and it didn't work - had ahell of a time figuring that out!Search for Kermit on www.hpcalc.org. I had to do this last night :)I gotta say, this is one of the coolest tips/tricks that I ever seen. Youhave found a simple way of making the HP do everything that someone wouldwant at the keyboard. You can now execute anything, simply anything, fromI wish it would let you use the custom rebinding from edit mode and otherplaces, but ...worry about resetting the flags after any errors, I don't need theIFERR clause either.I'm not very familiar with Erable's use and I can't find a referenceto KEYEVAL in the documentation for Erable 3. Do you know whereI could find more information. The information in the CAS chapterof the AUG didn't mention this - prefix trick.the only place I've seen it so far is within the ERABLE 3.2 archive, where it is mentioned in the changes file. Two things about the above program: For the 49, assign it to key 71.2, for the 48, 61.2 if you want to have it as LS-USER. Put it in user mode first or set flag -61, otherwise you won't be able to get into USER mosd, only 1USR.I agree, that's really neat. I just tried it, it works perfectly. But Ihave this question for you:I would like to switch key 22.1 and 22.2. I tried keyevals, but as I'm sureyou already know, it seems to do an endless loop. I have the 22.1 key as mymay be the answer, as my only gripe is I always forget to turn USR back on,but is there any way to make MODE the function for 22.2?te:I searched the Erable docs, but only found KEYEVAL mentioned in thecommand reference without further descriptions. With your idea it's very easy to create a 1USR OFF command todisable USER keys for just one keystroke, sure this routine *has* tobe assigned to a key ;-)works on the HP49 or HP48_with_Erable :-))_______________________________Do you know the great Frequently Asked Questions?http://www.engr.uvic.ca/~aschoorl/faq/and the superb HP48 Software Archive?http://www.hpcalc.orgto look for *old* HP48 postings seehttp://www.deja.comOk, I go away for a couple of months and all hell breaks loose.I just found out that Monolith has permanently closed and soall *.ml.org addresses are dead ... but I've been unable to findout WHY it closed. Anyone ?Secondly, has hp48.ml.org simply been wiped of the face of theplanet, or has it moved ? If so where ?I tried a few trial and error DHS addresses hp48.dhs.orgwithout success. You know how you get those databursts on TVthat you need to tape and play back in slow motion, and have the advantage of showing 10 hours ofvideo in the space of 10 nanoseconds ( perhapsthat's a slight exaggeration ) ?Could someone do that to me now please, so Idon't ever again ask another stupid question ?Beieve it or not, all this started just because Iwanted that Goal Seeking Engine thing. Is there anything like that for the PC ?http://www.liberty.com/home/joehorn/HP48.htm is dead too.Where is it now ?Keith G. Robertson-Turnerturnermator@ukonline.co.ukScratch that. I just found a message from Joe in thisng with a link to http://www.jps.net/joehorn/HP48.htmHere is a short program, in userRPN to do products(PI) similar to thebuilt in HP (sigma) command for sums. It works in RPN mode, and probablyworks in algebraic mode: <
