A219 i'm almost certain to have the same problem as you. for me it works to keep the correct order of steps you do. first i switch on the calc then i plug in the usb cable then i'm starting the kit then i'm setting up the xmodem server then i'm connecting. it takes about 15 seconds until the main directory is visible. it took some time to find this out. Mike a \.8ecrit : It's no use to try to read the pdf file directly on the calc because of the poor screen. But what you can do is to convert your pdf file with a tool like pdftotext and then transfer the text file to the calc. pdftotext is available on most common UNIX systems. You can also use fmt to reformat the text so that it will fit in the 33 chars-wide screen of your calc. I don't know if there are such useful programs for other Operating System. posting-account=7R8gZQ0AAACIN6vQN53VHKLWhkFkxf7Y The HEADMAN.LIB has 3 utilities for viewing different types of text. See http://page.mi.fu-berlin.de/~raut/WR49/index.htm for more info. I don't know if they can handle .pdf files though... X-RFC2646: Format=Flowed; Response your insights. Mike X-RFC2646: Format=Flowed; Response ABSolutely Everyone knows about the commands originally designed for a user interface, e.g. HALT, PROMPT, INPUT, INFORM, CHOOSE, but how many have heard of another variation on this theme, namely INMENU? With best wishes from http://www.mum.edu Even better, it turns out that the best place to store temp data is in the batteries themselves; research has shown that during discharge, the bits stream back out in the exact reverse order that they were entered during charging, so you can always use the batteries themselves for any LIFO temp data storage. Just beware of the new one-way encrypting batteries developed by the NSA to thwart TEMPEST attacks based on original, weak-encrypting battery chemistries. Giancarlo The following falls into the \any other\ category, but is chock full of useful information: http://www.finseth.com/~fin/hpdata/hp42s.html Collected data on this and many other models: http://www.finseth.com/~fin/parts/hpdata.zip More info: http://www.finseth.com/hpdata.html http://www.hpmuseum.org/hp42s.htm Right that it was disabled in 1.19-5 and subsequent 49G ROM versions. As to *why* it was removed, I can't find any saved info, but in fact what was originally supplied on the stack in ALG mode wasn't quite what you might have expected, and was not so usable. I did what I could with it in my posted \save unlimited command-line entries\ programs, but it was nowhere near as satisfactory as in RPN mode. Further discussion of Vectored Enter (R.I.P.) in 49G ALG mode: I expect any RTV silicone would work. Goop or Shoe-Goo would work good too. My racing stripe 'snapped' today while taking the 49G+ out of its case. I was shocked and disappointed when this happened! Of the 1/2 dozen HP calculators I own, this is the only one to break. However, a dab of the remarkable J-B Weld epoxy has got it back in place. There is now a gap that the epoxy is filling which inicates the band was strained. Looks like a manufacturing tolerance problem or a design oversight. It's easy enough to fix though. A black RTV silicone (avaliable at auto parts stores) would be more asthetically pleasing than the grey J-B Weld. I am really a 'fan-boy' of J-B weld though! I suppose if some hot babe might see the gray epoxy and somehow think less of me, I can color it with Sharpie black ink! rQ@midco.net: I am not an expert, but the one I use a year ago was a Transparent one, is named UHU but I think this is a local name. It is not difficult to find in this toy asambley stores (like scale cars, planes and boats). Daniel Mine was very different. Read my post about it a week ago or so. I think my board was an old one that had been turned in under warranty. My keyboard feels better than my first two, but it's still skipping, though not as bad. Scott Chapin X-RFC2646: Format=Flowed; Response Just picked up a new 49G+ in Dallas, Texas (Plano) with a CNA502 serial number (sticker). Can't say if there is any difference in this keyboard compared to my last one. This makes my third 49G+. The first had such a noisy keypad, it was disturbing other students during tests. The ENTER key broke loose on the second one and then finally would not power up. Took it apart and found a \ broken wire coming from the battery compartment and the ENTER had broken loose from the hinge. My impression of the of how the \array\ of keys \ are manufactured only set them up to break loose. There is very little material \ holding them to the frame the keys are attached to. X-RFC2646: Format=Flowed; Original Hello. I've an exam in the afternoon and i have find a program on hpcalc.org \ called Routh by Andrea Baccin. I've uploaded it in my Hp49+ but i don't understand how i can use it.... in the manual with the program i have read \You need to copy the library (library #1329) to the calculator (with you preferred com program ) and store it in a port (any port should do). No other particular programs are needed. Once you have the library in the stack type :x: 1329 STO , where x is the port you want to \ store the library (0,1,2)\ so if i type for example \ :0: 1329 STO \ there is an error \INVALID \ SYNTAX\ but i don't understand why there is an error.... In other words a list structured as: { { 1 2 3} {4 5 6} {7 8 9} } will be displayed with all the values in the sub-lists? All I get is the first element of each sub-list. I hope this question hasn't been Scott H. X-RFC2646: Format=Flowed; Original hello, well, you just need to read the documentation and think (hard I have to admit) at what the system does and how to get it to work your way. the argument given to choose is a list of items to choose from. an item is either a single object which is displayed and returned if selected or it is a list, in which case, the first item of the list is displayed and \ the 2nd item of the list is returned. of course, if you want to display a list, you are apparently, how can I say \ it, in deep .... but let us think about it, what if I place my list item in a list and try to use choose? obviously, according to the rule, the first object of each list should be displayed, and this is my object! example: \\ { { { 1 2 3 } } {{4 5 6}} {{7 8 9}}1 CHOOSE and tadam! it works! it's increadible how these HP engineers thought of everything, isn't it? ok, now who will be the first to find a bug in choose, just to prove me wrong :-) have fun and enjoy your calculator (and life), Cyrille. I converted the first element of the list to an integer to save 3 characters of space. Then recombined the list. This is because the choose box is not dynamic and expand in size as needed.
