 Ok, i have extable installed in my HP49, in port 2 (if it is 
 relevant). 
 I had a symilar problem with JAZZ, but it was due to the library that 
 wasn`t installed in pot 0. So, i had to install it in port 0 to work 
 correctely. 
 If you know something else about this, please let me know it. 
 At this moment, i`m learning Ml using this document (yes it is a 
 wonderful document), but it going to take a few days to get at this 
 point.  I will try to understand  the algorithm completely.

 I am writting a program to do a periodic table. My problem is that i 
 want to  do a interface with a selector, so pressing the arrows you 
 can navigate along the elements. I want to know how to code a sqare 
 that can be moved with the arrows, and to inverse the selected portion 
 of the grob. It must return the position.  I think it can only be made 
 with Assembler, since i can't do it with sys-rpl but i'm not sure.

 It's a pity that nobody answered your questions correctly, it would have 
 saved you a lot of times (and data) 
 When this happens, it means that you have a library (usually invalid) that 
 is running an even more incorrect configuration object and make the 
 calculator reboots. 
 When it happens, simply hold the backspace key when booting, then run PINIT 
 and delete the bad library.

 Yes and no. The HP49 is sometimes also slower when running the same 
 UserRPL programs (I know of the modes which effect that speed...  :-) 
 I still don't own a 49 (but think I'll get one someday). Out of the 
 box the HP49 surely has much more power then the HP49 and I think in 
 most cases it'll be the better choice today when buying a new calc. On 
 the other side there are still some programs which are only available 
 for the HP48 and which I would surely miss on a HP49... 
 [PowerPlot/Table for sure, XCrunch, some other little tools I often 
 use - is Stat03 already ported?] 
 (in contrast there are some very nice programs only available for the 
 HP49). 
 So maybe a good help is to ask other students who already own a HP48 
 if they think in your area a 48 or 49 might be better?

         I have written an language which runs on POSIX system. 
 It is based on the RPL of the HP-28S with some extensions 
 (preprocessor, extern files, TeX output...). It isn't an emulator, 
 but a real language. You can find the last release at

 Well, the 49G uses inequalities as objects that can be evaluated to 1 
 (for TRUE) or 0 (for FALSE). The algebraic '2*(a<b)' will be evalu207ted 
 to 2*0=0 if a<0 is FALSE, to 2*1=2 if a<0 is true or left unevaluated 
 if the calc doesn't know anything about a and b. Inequalities are not 
 used like equations on the 49G. (Except for the command SOLVE which 
 can solve inequalities with only one unknown.) For the 49G an 
 inequality is simply a question if true or false and nothing more. It 
 can answer it only when variables involved have known values. 
 The absolute mode is almost useless on the HP49. But there are some cases 
 where an advanced programmer would like to use it. 
 When we first did the MetaKernel for the HP48, the possibility of making 
 such a small program with so much feature and speed rely a lot on the fact 
 that it's using absolute addresses. Absolute addresses also allows to make 
 jumps bigger than 16KB 
 With absolute address the way you will call a sub-program will be done by 
 calling an address rather than using a FlashPointer or a RomPointer, it's 8 
 times smaller and a LOT faster. 
 You can create your own SystemRPL entry points etc... 
 An example would be a program saved in port 0 as the last object, therefore 
 its address is always the same. 
 I don't think absolute mode could be used in a different location. 
 Well, as a matter of fact, you could: 
 For example copy a program in the screen zone using absolute addresses.

 I've always been curious about the delay when opening or swithcing between  
 the plotting menus.  I know that they are loading a lot of stuff, but I've

 then the inform box PLOT WINDOW - FUNCTION is again displayed with 
 its contents. What is that for? This switching back and forth between 
 windows delays things a lot. It would suffice to only show the first

 the bank-switching that JYA personally coded is sloppy? 
 I'm still trying to plot Y1(X)=300*IQUOT(X-3,144), but the '49 keeps 
 complaining that I must feed IQUOT with RealNum args (the bad  
 argument 
 type error is returned) 
 is there a way to plot IQUOT? is it supposed to work only on the stack? 
 I tried to plot it. Doesn't work. I went to graphics environment and 
 tried menu traceomb and warmstart... Well something is wrong

 About the difference between IQUOT and IP, well IP takes one argument, 
 the quotient itself, while IQUOTE needs 2 arguments, the numerator and 
 the denominator. This is the only difference I can see. 
 If you have use the 49G starting with a 1.05 (or earlier) 
 you could say just one thing:

 Yes, you are right with that comparison. The problem is that I have 
 also used the 48SX and GX before and tend to compare *them* with the 
 IQUOT works with only two kind of arguments: 
 2 symbolic expressions or 2 reals. 
 In this example, you're mixing a symbolic expression and a real (IQUOT 
 doesn't evaluate its argument). 
 In any case, I've never been able to reproduce a crash here. I always get 
 the error: Bad Argument Type when I start the plotter. 
 What do you do exactly ? 
 Unfortunately there is not.  I have sent source code to someone, but 
 really the failure is on my part because I have been so busy.  I suppose 
 if the person who was going to port it is still interested, I could try 
 to get things going again.  I am still undecided about which version to 
 port and I have been trying to make it completed.  I would like to use 
 the full version for the port, but there are some bugs that I need to 
 address first.  So the factors that will determine if there will be a 
 port and when that will be are: 
 - is the person still interested in doing the port? 
 - when will I have time to make fixes to the full beta version? 
 - will I have beta testers to identify problems right away?

 Oh yes, what you say is true. But you can use the manuals of the 48 to 
 do most kinds of graphs on the 49 because the plot types and 
 parameters are almost the same. So you might want to get

 The 49g has an additional plot type (Fast3D) which is of course not 
 covered in the manuals of the 48, but the information about the other

 The plastic covering the LCD screen cover is slowly peeling off. 
 The corners already look as dog ears. 
 The keyboard has been excellent: no sudden death 
 behaviour like in the old HP calulators ;-) 
 BUT 
 the keyboard is now too soft !! 
 When I bought my own calculator (& returned the prototype) 
 it was so stiff that I quickly got Arnold-arms or rather Popey-arms 
 NOW 
 when the keyboard became softer after two years of use 
 (not to mention about the new cheap chinese models) 
 it's TOO soft for my strong hands. 
 Although my friends complain that I shake hands a little bit too hard 
 and my late girlfriend - peace to her soul - was rather fragile... 
 PS: I would pay double the price of the 49G 
 if HP would just release a iHPQ-50GX 
 with a real injection-molted keybord (late 12C style?)
