HP-30 Just a note that http://bugs.hpcalc.org/ is set up to handle bug reports on the HP49G+ I just received my new HP49G+ calc from Samson Cables and quickly noticed that the F6 key doesn't work properly compared to the rest of the keys. I need to press it harder for it to make a beep. I am VERY disappointed. > 1. The bottom row of the screen flickers a bit every now and then. It > is something wery short but IT IS there. And let's not forget speed! http://belsky.net 1. The 7 and 3 key require more force 2. The is no percievable flickering unless clock is on 3. Good paint 4. Don't know about batteries yet. Haven't upgraded rom either. No problems with connection software. > http://www.hp-sources.com/hp49plus/Softs49Gplus/TronGR11.zip What is the difference between Mode 1 and Mode 2? If you haven't already done so, visit http://membres.lycos.fr/ekalin/. The 49G and 49g+ inherited a lot from their predecessors, the 48 series, which in turn inherited a lot from the 28 series. Don't ignore information written for these. Visit http://www.engr.uvic.ca/~aschoorl/ and http://m.webring.com/hub?ring=hp48 Funny that you should mention that. It looks as if HP expects us to have the AUR and use it. See page C-13 References for non-CAS commands in the 49g+ user's guide. http://groups.google.com/groups?group=comp.sys.hp48&selm=1900%40seq.uncwil.e http://www.hpcalc.org/details.php?id=5493 On my hp49g+ I have rom v1.22 uploaded via conn4X under WinXP Pro. I did try the example on page 5-12 of the User's Manual. In RPN mode, entering each tick enclosed expression followed by DIV2 produced a result of X^7 + X^5 + X^3 +X X - 1 There were no labels, per se; but it seems reasonable that the stack level 2 contained the quotient, and stack level 1 contained the remainder. I had trouble at first, but if you see your hp49g+ driver show up under device manager with the calc plugged IN and ON; then make sure you're using the RED right-shift key and the CHROME right-arrow to invoke the XMODEM SERVER it might just begin to make sense. The directions are a little intimidating; but they did work for me. Especially the calculator reset manuever afterwards. They say to hold the (+) and (-) keys down together and after you use the paper clip gadget trick , wait a little bit before releasing those keys. (I didn't do the WAIT thing, but it still worked, anyway!) Some win98SE user's haven't had any luck with conn4X and went the SD route, instead. I was ready to do that, too; until I discovered that I was using the wrong key for my right arrow. I used the little red right arrow above the 0 key ... WRONGO! heh heh! Pretty stupid on my part, but funny it is ... looking back on it! and the example of using DIV2 on page 5-12 doesn't work. The rpn program has menus that let you pick if the command and the > > version of it. You can pick the 2 arg version, the 3 arg version, > > the 4 arg, etc. > Think of it: The calc silently changes these switches without telling > while doing calulations and switches them silently back to the old > settings (which is technically speaking perfectly possible). Now IĞm > forced to think, that the given results are valid for the old flag > setting without any knowledge, that this is wrong. I think you don't understand the situation. Apart from the red herring of the radians switch, the validity of the result has nothing at all to do with the flag setting. http://www.calvin.edu/~sstear70/ > I purchased an hp49g+ from Singapore, serial No:CN33109123, but the > connectivity program Conn4x is not able to locate the calculator. Notice the message is just a little different. Yes, I do. >Now Conn4x will see the calculator. No. The error message Unable to open communications to HPx9G+ appears. Maybe there's a hardware error. Would you please be so kind and tell me what the calculator responses when you perform the USB-test, that is ON-D, followed by 6? > Good luck, I really like the 49G+ the new Connectivity seems to be less perfect than the old one. A bad thing is that it has no Uninstall which removes all writings in the Win registers. Very ugly also that it doesn't inform you that something may be wrong in IOPAR or that you switched to infrared. Thus, better purge your IOPAR before starting the kit. The Server mode then creates the default IOPAR with a Baud rate of 115200, Parity none, Checksum 3 and Translation level 1. Theoretically, these values should not influence USB but who knows... Most important: don't forget to choose wire. The state of SysFlag -33 is not stored in IOPAR. Another ugly thing is that the new kit also listens all hiddens. This may confuse advanced users who usually have several dozends of hiddens. They are *not* displayed by the old kit and this was good so. on my win2000 computer the connection ONLY works, if I follow this sequence: 1) start program (with usb cable UNplugged to the HP49G+) 2) switch the HP49+ on and plug the usb cable 3) start xmodem server (RS right-arrow) 4) select 'Connect using:' HPx9G+ 5) press the button 'Quick connect to the calculator', right of the speed select pull-down dietmar >>the new Connectivity seems to be less perfect than the old one. But that didn't solve my problem. I presume that there's a hardware error in the calc (or in the PC). So, would someone please be so kind to perform the USB-test (ON-D 6) and tell me please what the calc is responding? on my win2000 computer the connection ONLY works, if I follow this sequence: As far as I know, ON-D 6 will not do anything that I can see. It just says to plug in the USB cable and that's it. Nothing else happens. 1. Make sure flag 33 is set to wire 2. Turn on Calc 3. Plug in USB cable. If windows does not show HPx9g+, reinstall the USB drivers 4. Try Conn4x. Does Conn4x show HPx9G+, if yes, then try to connect (Edit/Connect) 5. Make sure calculator screen says: Xmodem Server... If all this still fails, what Windows version? What Calculator ROM version? > Another ugly thing is that the new kit also listens all hiddens. This > may confuse advanced users who usually have several dozends of hiddens. > They are *not* displayed by the old kit and this was good so. - Wolfgang I do not see the hidden directory on my calculator. Could you be referring to something else, Wolfgang > As far as I know, ON-D 6 will not do anything that I can see. It just says > to plug in the USB cable and that's it. Nothing else happens. If I plug the cable, I read the messages: USB CONNECT OK WAIT RECEIVING PRESS ENTER EXIT So what is the 49+ waiting for? > 1. Make sure flag 33 is set to wire You mean -33, don't you? > 2. Turn on Calc 3. Plug in USB cable. If windows does not show HPx9g+, > reinstall the USB drivers It does show the device. > 4. Try Conn4x. Does Conn4x show HPx9G+, Yes. > if yes, then try to connect (Edit/Connect) I've tried, but the error message is: Unable to open communications to HPx9G+ > 5. Make sure calculator screen says: Xmodem Server... I did that, too. > If all this still fails, what Windows version? 98. But, in spite I'm using computers for nearly 20 years (and HP calcs for about 15 years), I never owned a PC that ran Windows. So I have connected the 49+ to my wife's PC, which is running under Win98. The PC's USP-port should not be defective since she transfers regularyly pictures from her digicam to the PC via USB. > What Calculator ROM version? Revision 1.22 Surprisingly enough, the ROM-upload works flawlessly. I am having the exact same problem with win98. If you try and take a screenshot the drivers seem to lock up. XP works flawlessly. Did you know you can connect via IrDA using the old connectivity kit with windows 98? Just use a virtual COM port via IR. Everything works except for screenshots (The format appears to have changed to allow for the larger screen). I can take screenshots under 98 using IrDA and the new software, so I blame the USB drivers. I wish this issue was resolved, as alot of PC's still use 98 and not many have IrDA ports. Either that or mention 'Windows 98 is not supported' in the software. > I do not see the hidden directory on my calculator. > Could you be referring to something else, Wolfgang? Indeed, I refer to the hiddens made with various hiding tools (library (also in HOME) with a dummy in it, to separate visibles and hiddens. These are still visible in the filer but fortunately not known to xVARS or DOVARS. My suggestion is that the connectivity kit should read DOVARS which is fast enough (already on the 49 it is much faster than in the HP48). Your kit seems to use the builtin filer which perhaps was no good idea. JYA obviously realized the need of file hiding in a hightech calculator as can easily be infered from his bug-fix in the filers nullname treatment. My suggestion is that the connectivity kit should read DOVARS which is X NO! I suggest a flag, eg. enhancement request to configure conn4x to hide/show variables after any null-name (using internally the non-sorted original file order) Agreed; the user may very well want to see and/or upload some hidden variables. To be sure, one could always unhide them on the calculator first, but I'd prefer to be able to toggle making hidden variables visible by an option in the connectivity kit. -- Agreed; the user may very well want to see and/or upload some hidden variables. To be sure, one could always unhide them on the calculator first, but I'd prefer to be able to toggle making hidden variables visible by an option in the connectivity kit. -- That's interesting as the iPAQ has always recommended bypassing hubs. I think some people aren't implementing USB fully... Previously I have posted that I was having all sorts of problems with >the USB and the connectivity kit. My problems went away when I bypassed my usb hub and went directly >into the motherboard. > Did you know you can connect via IrDA using the old connectivity kit > with windows 98? Just use a virtual COM port via IR. Is it possible to connect a serial->IrDA adaptor to one of the PC's COM-ports and establish a connection to the calc? Yes, they are part of the USB standard... I had a similar problem at first, but mine was remedied when I figured out how to use the XModem Server. However, now I am having another, more serious problem. When I plug my calculator in to my Windows XP Professional computer, it connects without any problem. However, if I unplug it, and replug it in, my computer restarts. I have tried restarting my computer, and reinstalling the conectivity software. It is not a problem with the connectivity software, as if i just plug my calculator in and then unplug it and replug it in, it will crash (even if I don't open the software). It works fine on a 98 machine at my school, and my other windows XP Professional Computer. Has anyone else had any problems like this? Also, was a CD included with your calculator, and if so, was it a burned CD? Mine was just a burned CD. Aside from this, I am quite impressed by this calculator (it is my first HP graphing calculator... before this I have only used the 32sii) And plenty of devices work with them fine. It just seems certain devices (or their drivers) aren't properly written... Do these hubs work in both ways? The G+ is so much faster - the keyboard problems doesn't seem to matter so much. The usb driver installed without problem (XP) and used Conn4x to make a backup from the HP49G, then restored from PC to HP49G+. Took a couple of minutes. The only weird thing is that, when I try to ARCHIVE on the G+ I get a 'insufficient memory' error. Even though my Home dir = 120K. Anyone maybe know what's happening here; there is 750K free in Port 2, which is where I'm trying to Archive to. > The ROM is 1.22, but I wasn't aware there was any others for the G+??
