FALSE PROPHESY NUMBER 52 ... "I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding its precepts, than by another book." -- Joseph Smith, November 28, 1841. HISTORY OF THE CHURCH, vol. 4. page 467. If the BOOK OF MORMON is the most correct book on earth, why have there been at least 3,914 changes in it since the first edition in 1830? We have a photo-mechanical copy of the 1830 edition with all of the changes marked. We even make note of the 1981 change in 2 Nephi 30:6 which changed "white and delightsome" to "pure and delightsome". Verse 16-20 of Section 3 prophecies that the Lamanites will be converted. To Mormons the Lamanites are the Indians. The Mormon church has been trying to convert the Indians for 153 years to no avail. All ICR staff members adhere to a Statement of Faith in the form of two documents: 'Tenets of Scientific Creationism' and 'Tenets of Biblical Creationism,' key features of which are summarized below: All things were supernaturally created by the Triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Bible is the divinely inspired revelation of the Creator, completely free from error of any sort - scientifically, historically, morally, and theologically. Each basic type of plant and animal was specifically created 'after its kind' by God. None came from non-living substances, nor did any develop from some other plant or animal. The first human beings, Adam and Eve, were specially created by God; all other men and women are their descendants. In Adam, mankind was given 'dominion' over all other created organisms and over the earth itself. The creation of all things occured in six literal days. All things were originally 'very good.' God's natural laws now act to conserve His creation. The entrance of sin into the world, through Adam, brought God's curse on all creation, culminating in death and separation of nations at Babel. -------------- It was Theodosius who made it the state religion in 391--the year when legislation persecuting Jews, pagans, and heretics was passed. That was also the year of the infamous Serapaeum destruction. Christianity legalized it in 313 with the Edict of Milan which placed Christianity on the same legal footing as pagan "cults". -------- The studies indicated that Gentry doesn't know basic physics, and that science is secondary to his occultism. He chose to believe an impossibility (Polonium-238 "halos" in mica) over the god-less and factual explanation (Radon 222). He then lied about a few things to make a better theology, such as claiming his samples had not been subjected to other radiations. ----------- it wasn't until 525 CE that BC/AD was invented [by a Catholic monk, Dionysius Exiguus]. ----- The 1611 edition read ". . . he slew two lions like men of Moab ." Not, obviously, the same thing, and also not merely a "spelling change." They didn't catch that error until 1613. -------- the god Quetzalcoatl, who was born of a virgin, slain in atonement for a primal sin, and whose Second Coming was confidently expected. He was often represented as a trinity signified by three crosses, a large one between the smaller ones. -------- "INQUISITION" TORTURE INSTRUMENTS from the middle ages to the industrial era presented in various European cities in 1983-1987. By: Qua DUArno , Publishers & Editorial Florence, Italy Phone number: (055) 296.595 Photographs by: Marcello Bertoni ISBN 88-85035-07-8 Distributed in the USA by Barnes and Nobel ----------- Innocent IV, like his predecessors in the great line of lawyer-popes, Innocent III and Gregory IX, was a master of canon law, and even wrote a famous commentary on it. His pontificate was dominated by the final stage of the long struggle for power between Frederick II and the papacy. After Frederick's death in 1250, the political situation in Italy changed dramatically and a rapid succession of Bulls to the Dominican provincials gave fresh momentum to the Inquisition. It was also at this point that the Franciscans became involved as inquisitors on a large scale. This frenetic activity of Innocent IV culminated with the Bull Ad Extirpanda, 'to extirpate', which 'sought to render the civil power completely subservient to the Inquisition, and prescribed the extirpation of heresy as the chief duty of the state'. 'Ad Extirpanda' effectively established a police state in Italy and is noteworthy for having introduced the use of torture into inquisitorial procedure, and for explicitly condoning burn subsidiary Bull, Cum adversus haereticam, It commanded legislation against the heretics and Ghibellines and this terrible weapon provided for: I. torture as a means of obtaining confessions; 2. the death penalty at the stake; 3. a police force at the service of the Office of the Faith (that is, the Inquisition); 4. the preaching of a crusade against heretics in Italy with the same indulgences and privileges as in a crusade to the Holy Land; 5. the extension of the principle of confiscation to the heirs of heretics. Later Bulls served to refine this legislation, and it is interesting to see amendments being made constantly in response to specific demands or problems that arose in the work of inquisitors. ---- [And] this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syri Roman records indicate that a senator named Publius Sulpicius Quirinius, surnamed Cyrenius was dispatced to Syria in 6 CE. Josephus supports this by stateing that a census was taken in the year 6 CE. BUT... both Matthew and Luke make it explicitly clear that Jesus was born during the reign of Herod the Great, who died in 4 BCE. Two historical figures are used to date the birth of Jesus, but they were not contemporaries. Ten years seperate the two. ------ Up until 600 BCE there was a temple to Ashera, a Semitic form of Ishtar, in Jerusalem that co-existed with the temple of JHVH. ----- Muratorian Fragment came into existence two centuries before, or how Athanasius managed to write his 39th Festal letter --- Jerome and Athanasius took part in the discussions of what belonged in the Canon. Several fathers composed different lists of what they considered to be canonical. However, when the Church made the final decsision on the Canon the tradition remained unchanged until Luther. First Esdras is missing in the New American Bible and that Second Esdras is split (as in Luther's Bible) into Ezra and Nehemiah. Also, the books of Third and Fourth Maccabees are missing in the New American Bible. Third and Fourth Esdras are referred to in the Protestant Apocrophya as I and II Esdras, and have never been considered part of the Canon. The Prayer of Manassah is also part of the Protestant Apocrophya which is not part of the OT Canon. Third and Fourth Maccabees have never been accepted, and are not found in the Catholic Bible or in the Protestant Apocrophya. THE OLD TESTAMENT CANON OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH by Roger Beckwith (1985). This book is quoted a lot by Geisler/Nix in their A GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE BIBLE (1986). ---- From this brief statement by Thallus we can ascertain that (1) the Christian gospel, or at least an account of the crucifixio of Jesus, was known in the Mediterranean region by the middle of the first century A.D. This brings to mind the presence of Christian teachings in Rome mentioned by Tacitus and Suetonius 2) Unbelievers offered rationalisitic explanations for certain Christian teachings or for supernatural claims not long after their initial proclamation.
